Uh...somewhere in front of you, I think. [It says something about Minato's level of inebriation that he manages to stumble on his feet even being supported by Yu as he points vaguely at what he thinks is supposed to be the Residential District.
Even that's an improvement over his condition just fifteen minutes before this, bent over a sink and throwing up what feels strongly of bad ideas and regrets about downing too much alcohol at once. Drying his clothes had turned out to be a bust too, and the night air is just cold enough to make him sneeze.]
Thanks for walking me back...and to think I invited you to enjoy yourself, Narukami-san.
That narrows it down, [ he says mildly, without inflection or agenda. They'll figure it out, one way or another. Yu adjusts his grip on Minato's wrist during the stumble, winding his free arm around the other's waist to help keep him steady. Two teenagers, stumbling home after a party... his uncle, and his parents, would kill him. The thought wrings a smile out of him, though his expression moves through several quiet shades of gentle as he looks at his friend. ]
I did enjoy myself. And it's no problem. Consider it my thanks for inviting me in the first place.
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. [Minato's speech comes out sounding like he mashed about half of those words together, starting to teeter right into a killer headache. Then he goes quiet for a few minutes after, hanging on to Yu as much as possible while he strains what's left of his thinking capacity to be of some help, hating to be a burden even falling-down drunk.]
Turn right? ...I was just thinking of something else too. [But in coming up with a direction that's wrong Minato's forgotten what was it that he was going to say, as evidenced by how he abruptly stops and leaves the sentence hanging.]
[ Yu huffs a breath through his nose and is simply content with the silence while it lasts. He's never one to push conversation. Neither of them is, of course; they're usually the ones to hang back while their friends chatter away, after all.
Then Minato says "Turn right?" like a question and Yu slows them, not actually turning right yet, instead just looking at his friend questioningly. ]
[The pained look on Minato's face when Yu looks at him suggests that he has no idea what Yu's talking about. That, or he's certain the pounding in his head will knock him out before they can get back.]
I think so. [There's a shift in pressure as Minato hangs his head low, and he recalls what he was going to say earlier by some miracle.]
You called me Minato-san just now...is there any reason for it?
[ Well, alright. Yu will bob his head in a slight nod and start them walking again in the direction Minato said. They'll figure it out, one way or another.
The question ... gives him pause. A great deal of it. This time his quiet is of a different color, thoughtful and serious and a little something else, too.
I chose to save the both of you. Would you like to know why? ]
It just seemed right... [Minato's grip on Yu tightens, not out of anything but the sensation that he's about to pass out soon, light-headed as he already feels.
He's likewise quiet as they turn to the right, nearing the Residential District at least if not the destination in question.] Was it because of what we talked about the other day?
[The silent treatment. Huh. Minato's unused to that since people were usually eager to say something to him, but in retrospect he should have expected that from a fellow Wild Card.
The next stretch of road is straight, and the predictability of Yu's steady steps lulls Minato further and further into dozing off. How funny then that he turns a thought in his head about the sound earlier only to realize that Yu had in fact answered his question without actually answering it- in hindsight he should have thought of that too.
With his consciousness slowly fading like fog before the sun, Minato raises his voice just by a minute volume so that he can be heard.]
You know...I've been thinking about that too. Not about that incident exactly, but we've been through a lot, haven't we? [Case in point: Volunteering to drag a drunk and half-conscious friend back to his apartment, come heaven or hell.]
[ Again, he's okay with the silence, as long as Minato doesn't actually fall asleep on him. Then he'll actually have to carry him, and that would be kind of a hassle. ]
We have. [ With a smile smile, he adds: ] Since the day we met.
[Minato's trying hard to not drift off to sleep since he doesn't want to be a literal burden on Yu, but it might be hard to tell that from how he seems to alternate between slipping and maintaining his grip.
He considers Yu's words and how he had used Minato's first name while they were at the hospital. Perhaps they haven't known each other that long and it's true that there's a lot they don't know, but his mind keeps returning to this supposed bond they shared almost as if they had met before.]
Yeah. [Pause.] Then I should refer to you by your first name too, huh, Yu-san?
[ It's one thing to have the Westerners and people from other worlds refer to him by his first name; that's pretty much expected, so it doesn't feel or sound strange when they do it.
But it's different, coming from Minato. Enough so that Yu shifts slightly at the sudden and very informal way Minato switches over to his given name. Yu-san... He sighs through his nose, smiling a little more, but this time it's kind of crooked. He can't help but wonder a little if Minato will remember this tomorrow.
> "Narukami-san is fine." > "I'd like that." > "Call me King." ]
That's good. [Sudden and informal is the actual way Minato rolls with honorifics, contrary to what one might initially assume judging by the way he uses them with everyone and applies it even to robots at times (Granted that said more about his general level of awareness than anything else). He'd rather address people by how they want to be called since it reflects their identity, and calling Yu by his first name means that they're equals.
Yu might not be able to see it in the dark, but Minato's happy to hear his that he'd like to be called by his first name.] ...I wonder what the rest of our friends are doing right now. Do you think they're still singing? [And that too is a sudden voiced thought.]
...Mmm. [That might sound like Minato's way of responding, but the increase in pressure on Yu's shoulder is probably indicative of something more than that.
... [The silence is ominous especially in light of how Minato's already fallen asleep on Yu once, thankfully broken a few seconds later with a coherent, if slurred answer.]
I think so... [This is extremely trying to Minato considering that his brain's stuck somewhere between the waking world and la-la land, and he has to squint a few times before pointing to one particular door, reaching into his pocket to fish out his wallet with his apartment key inside.
Only it's the wrong pocket, and he sighs, not feeling up to rummaging through the other one.]
Do you mind taking out my key, Yu-san? It's in the other pocket.
[ He'll reach across his friend's front and somewhat awkwardly slip his fingers into Minato's pocket, feeling as if this scenario is familiar, somehow...
>You received Apartment Key.
With some trepidation, Yu tries the key in the door... ]
We're home, [ He murmurs with some humor and relief. In Japanese, not the common tongue. He'll help Minato over the threshold, though after that, he seems uncertain what he should be doing... ]
What a relief. [It only seems appropriate to respond in kind and Minato lets out a yawn once they're properly inside the apartment- like Yu he's also at a loss for words and his attention is focused soon enough on the couch that's conveniently placed closer to them than his room.
On the other hand...maybe the couch isn't the best place to be completely wrecked on, and he glances at his room door.]
